Darina has lost her boyfriend Phoenix in a senseless fight. He was supposed to meet her, but when she is told he was in a fight she rushed to where it was. The only thing left is a puddle of blood. His blood. After his death she would swear that she sees him, but no one else can. Can she believe her eyes when she sees the dead kids from her school in a dilapidated barn? Are they really what they claim?
Jonas died in a horrific motorcycle crash. His girlfriend Zoey has been through multiple surgeries, but is still lost in a cloud of despair. As one of the Beautiful Dead Jonas has one year to straighten his death out, to take care of any unfinished business. But as one of the Beautiful Dead he also has stipulations, and his time is near an end.
When Darina is given a chance to see her dead boyfriend again she knows that she will jump at the opportunity to spend more time with him. When Hunter tells her she can spend some time with him while helping the other beings known as the Beautiful Dead she happily agrees. But her first task is a hard one, and one that is on a very short time table. She must figure out what cause Jonas to crash, causing his death and Zoey’s hardships. Can she figure out what happened in time to send Jonas to a better time? Or will she fail and lose her chance to spend more time with the boy she loves?
I give full credit to Eden Maguire. This is one tale that I would categorize as an all age, whether 14 or 40. I would be comfortable with a new teen reading this and it moved along smoothly enough to keep me more than just entertained. I found myself pulling for Darina, crying with her, and feeling her pain. This story of lost love and second chances is simply one that touches the heart in so many ways it is hard to explain simply. To say that I loved Beautiful Dead is put mildly. This is a story that I would share not only with my daughter but also with my friends. I would consider this, easily, a must read! And I will wait impatiently for the second installment!
