We all end up dead. It’s just a matter of when and how. That is what Ann, April, David, Evan, and Harold have found out. Though their deaths vary to the mundane to the extraordinary, and their lives were very different from one another, they all are on the same path. It is a path to redemption. But will they find the light? Or will they be trapped in the darkness forever?

Guiding souls up the mountain has been a satisfying job for Ahmed. This group in particular will probably be the more challenging ones he has come across. But he shall not fail the Shining One.

There are five strangers, dead, thirsty, with all the weight of the world on their shoulders. All they know is that they need to make it up that mountain. And along their journey, the group will be faced with their inner demons, each other’s suffering and other unimaginable pain while making their way to the light.

I have never read a book like this before. It is truly a fantastic book that incorporated details and characters you would never think would be in a book like this. I got the whole picture, felt the emotions they all were going through; crying, laughing, and nervousness. It was well detailed without being too detailed, and there was enough “meat” to the story which kept my interest. I loved Ann from the start. Her flashbacks and determination made me smile. April was one of the most screwed up people in that group but had the most amazing story. Furthermore, the moral I thought was outstanding. I would recommend this to YA and to adults. I should warn you though, if you do not care to read things that deal with Christianity or Jesus, then this may not be the book for you. Otherwise this is a very engrossing novella.

I have also read Into the Light, and I enjoyed it very much. I would still go ahead and recommend it to anyone, even those not particularly interested in Christianity or Jesus, as the book is not preachy in the least. It is an examination of the characters and how they deal with things that happened in their lives, and how those things can get in the way of finding something which they seek. Read without fear; John will not beat you over the head with his Bible.
